Scotty doesn't know
Other putter brands and me do it in my bag every Sunday

In the whimsical world of golf putters, where innovation usually means adding a new shade of paint or, heaven forbid, a slightly altered grip, Scotty Cameron struts in, year after year, with the confidence of someone bringing groundbreaking change.
But let's be real: the brand's "innovation" often feels like reheating last night's pizza and calling it a gourmet meal.
Yes, we're talking about the 2024 Scotty Cameron Phantom putters, where déjà vu meets déjà vu.
While other brands are busy bending the laws of physics, conjuring up space-age materials, or at least pretending to reinvent the wheel, our dear friend Scotty seems content to play it safe.
Scotty doesn’t know, that other putters and me, do it in my bag, every Sunday.
The 2024 lineup, in all its glory, tiptoes the fine line between 'tried and true' and 'same old, same old.' You know, kind of like how every new iPhone release is "revolutionary."
But hey, who needs innovation when you've got a cult following that treats every Scotty release like a lost artifact of Atlantis?
So, as we dive into the world of the 2024 Scotty Cameron Phantom putters, let's keep our expectations as grounded as a golfer's feet during a swing.
Prepare for a journey of slight tweaks, familiar feels, and the comforting embrace of the status quo.
2024 Phantom Putters — A continuation of a legacy or wash, rinse, repeat?
Before we dive into reviewing each of this years models, let’s take a walk down memory lane.
Starting with the official Scotty Cameron putter archive.
Now, don’t get me wrong. When I look at this archive, I get a little hard. I mean, who wouldn’t? Am I right or am I right?

But the thing is, other putter brands have caught up to Scotty. Househould brands like Odyssey (#1 putter on TARRR) and Taylormade.
Not to mention others like Piretti, Bettenardi, Bobby Grace, and L.A.B. (yes, it’s ugly but if it works, who fucking cares?).
My point is, I’ve grown tired of the same old shit.
Breaking down every 2024 Phantom Putter Model

Now, according to their official annoucment, Cameron and his team, in their latest creative escapade, have zeroed in on revamping the essential elements – shaping, sound, feel, and alignment – all in the name of 'enhancement.'
They've rolled out these dual-milled face models that seem to have gone under a meticulous facelift. Drawing from the pearls of wisdom dropped by tour players, Cameron has handcrafted a quartet of multi-material head shapes.
Each of these comes decked out in a variety of neck and shaft configurations, like a golfing fashion show with more tech and less runway.
Phantom 5
First up, let’s about the Phantom 5 which features a more compact shape and refined wing angles. The idea here is that this allows this model to emphasizie more of a near-face balanced design but keeping the blade-like feel.
This new model also features a new sight dot alignment and in an effort to provide more aid in accuracy and consistency.
Phantom 5.5
The major difference vs Phantom 5 is the jet neck design of the Phantom 5.5, which appeals to players who prefer the alignment of a mallet with the toe-flow of a blade.
This model is similar to the Phantom 5 but offers a different feel and experience due to the neck design.
In short, if you’re familiar with toe-hang, this puppy will hang more because it has less face balance because of the neck.
With me so far?
Phantom 5s
Onto the Phantom 5s. As you’d expect, the 5s introduces a new neck configuration. The Phantom 5s differs with its straight shaft and zero offset, offering an unobstructed view of the leading edge at address.
This model caters to golfers who favor a nearly-face balanced putter with a compact mallet shape.
Phantom 5 bottom line.
More compact head design to still offer a blade like feel. 3 neck configurations that influence the toe hang.
The more arc in your putter stroke, the more toe hang you want.
The more straight forward and back your putter stroke, the more face balance you want.
Phantom 7 and 7.5
Now that you get the idea of the Phantom putters. As we move into the other models of 7, 9, and 11 you’ll see the biggest changes are all around the head design.
When it comes to the 7 and 7.5 the 2024 versions offer updated contours and shape shift of these models, focusing on their alignment and stability features.
The 7.5, with its jet neck (more toe hang), offers a different stroke feel compared to the mid-bend shaft (more face balanced) of the Phantom 7.
Phantom 9 and 9.5
In 2024, Scotty Cameron completely redesigned shape of the Phantom 9, with its long sight lines and angular profile for improved alignment and forgiveness.
At address, two prominent sight lines milled from the leading edge all the way back guide the visual path for a confident setup that’s aesthetically pleasing and extremely functional.
The 9.5, similar to the 9, offers a toe-flow promoting jet neck for a different putting experience.
Again, these model changes are strictly about the head design. What is more pleasing to your eye. While the neck configurations is about more toe hang vs. more face-balance depending on your putting stroke.
Phantom 11 and 11.5
According to Scotty and team, this is yet another “complete redesign” of the Phantom 11 models. These high-MOI mallets feature a stable, mid-bend shaft and new arrow alignment features.
The 11.5, with its low-bend shaft, is designed for golfers seeking a slight arc in their putting stroke.
Phantom 11 Long Design – 38-inch:
The Phantom 11 also boasts a 38-inch counterbalanced model, which is longer (obviously), has a heavier grip and a custom-designed stiffer shaft. The new features accommodate the heavier head, including the tungsten sole weights, for a distinct putting experience.
In the end, what changed and why?
I’ll give it to them. They have done some improvements to the alignment system, added some new multi-material construction, dual-milled faces, performance weighting, misted finish, and added some sweet ass new grips.
Collectively, these will enhance your Scotty putting experience.
Also, fwiw, tour players like Cameron Young (what a fucking beaut), provided valuable feedback leading to the custom designs and adaptations in the 2024 lineup.
I don’t know if there’s a bigger baller on Tarr than Mr. Young and his MLB logo so I will take his word for it.
How much are these putters and when can you get your hands on them?
The new Scotty Cameron Phantom 5, 5.5, 5s, 7, 7.5, 9 and 9.5 models will be available worldwide beginning March 29, 2024, with the Phantom 11, 11.5 and new Phantom 11 Long Design joining the line on May 17, 2024.
Wrapping up Scotty’s ‘reimagined’ Phantoms
So, there you have it – the grand tour of the 2024 Scotty Cameron Phantom lineup. It's like a parade of familiar faces with new hairstyles: sure, they look a bit different, but deep down, you know they're the same folks you've been nodding at for years.
The kind that promise you change, but you know you'll end up with the same old reliable performance – not that it's a bad thing.
In a world where putter innovation often feels like adding a spoiler to a golf cart, Scotty Cameron sticks to what they know best: subtle tweaks wrapped in the comfort of familiarity. These putters aren't here to disrupt the market; they're here to offer a gentle, reassuring pat on the back, whispering, "Don't worry, we didn't mess up your favorite toy."
And let's be honest, for all the jest about lack of groundbreaking innovation, there's something undeniably alluring about these putters. Maybe it's the name, the legacy, or just the sheer joy of wielding a club that feels like an old friend – albeit one that got a slight makeover.
So, whether you're a die-hard Scotty fan or a skeptic wondering what the fuss is all about, one thing's for sure: these putters will find their way into bags and, inevitably, into the annals of 'classic Scotty Cameron' lore.
As we close the book on the 2024 Phantom series, remember: in golf, as in life, sometimes the most comforting thing isn't a radical change, but knowing exactly what you're going to get – and with Scotty Cameron, that’s a promise of quality, if not a thrill of unpredictability.
As always, you’re a beaut,
