This Week In Golf
As always This Week in Golf will deliver something succulent for your sporting tastebuds. So join me as we dive into not just the meaty headlines of who won on what tours, but also the savory side dishes of who made headlines on or off the tightly manicured grass. Also stick around for the decadent dessert of what the next big LIV payout is or what heavy walleted backing the PGA has caping for them. Let the smell of the after dinner espresso fill your nostrils and relax with the knowledge that you are fully caught up and in the know with all things golf.
The PGA does it’s best LIV impression at Pebble
Due to hurricane force winds and the potential for heavy rain the PGA cancelled the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.

Wyndham Clark fired a 60 on Saturday which secured him first place and a check for $3.6 million dollars. He bested Ludvig Aberg by one shot and the frenchman and new staple of 2024 leaderboards Mathieu Pavon by two strokes.
Aberg brought home $2.18 million for second place and Pavon can purchase $1.38 million in croissants for his third place finish. Aberg, who won the RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia in November, was poised to go for his second win of the year. Expect to see a lot more of Aberg who has played some awesome golf since bursting onto the scene at the last Ryder Cup.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the old gunslinger Tom Brady. You won’t often hear the term “poor guy” when referring to Mr. Brady but during the pro am portion of the event Tom experienced what all of us fear happening merely amongst three of our buddies and worst case a couple fellas on the restaurant patio or god forbid the cart girl. On the first tee the seven time super bowl champion cold topped his tee shot that dribbled just off the tee box and into the rough.
Thoughts go out to Tom during this difficult time.

With Pebble Beach Golf Links, Poppy Hills, Spyglass Hill, Monterey Peninsula CC, The Links at Spanish Bay, Pacific Grove, and the crown jewel Cyprus Point “Augusta on the water” The Monterey Peninsula in California is a personal favorite place of mine. Driving through the gates of the famous 17 Mile Drive you are transported to a different world. This part of the country has some of the most serene views in the world. If you haven’t had the chance to visit this wonderful place do yourself a favor and put it at the very top of your list.
Two Players In Top Five Withdraw From WM Phoenix Open

Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele have withdrawn from next weeks tournament. Ranked 4th and 5th respectively their presence will be missed but the field is still hearty.

The number one ranked player according to the World Golf Rankings Scottie Scheffler will seek to three peat at the event. The last player to win the same event three consecutive times was Steve Stricker at the John Deere in 2009-2011. Thomas, Spieth and Fowler round the list of exciting names ready to tee it up this week at the wasted management.

PGA Tour receives $3 billion investment
“Strategic Sports Group” led by Fenway Sports Group’s John Henry has invested $1.5 billion with another $1.5 billion guaranteed in the future. The group also includes New York Mets owner Steve Cohen, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank and Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck.
The deal was unanimously approved by the PGA Tours player directors.
Shocking.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has perhaps bought himself a little more time at the helm and staves off the wolves yet again. “Today marks an important moment for the PGA Tour and fans of golf across the world” said Monahan.
LIV’N in Mexico
Joaquin Niemann shoots a 12 under 59 en route to winning the LIV event at Mayakoba. For his efforts he walked away with the first place money to the tune of $4 million dollars. In his LIV debut Jon Rahm places T-3 winning $1.25 million. As well as guiding Legion XIII to a team victory and a four way share of $3 million.
The leaderboard at these LIV events are star studded to say the least. Every event looks like major in all honesty. Beside Niemann and Rahm the top 25 finishers included: Garcia, Johnson, Koepka, Hatton, Oosthuizen, Smith, Casey, Gooch, Watson, DeChambeau, Leishman, Ancer, Kaymer, and Wolff. This list makes for competitive golf that is hard to deny the talent.
As always, I hope your balls find the short grass and your lungs find the sticky stuff.
